Mrs. Janey L. West of Richmond, Ky., announces the engagement of her daughter, Bethany Jane, to Robert Anderson Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Brent Smith of Plain City, Ohio.

Bethany is the daughter of the late Rev. Claude O. West Jr.

Bethany is a graduate of Southwestern Pulaski High School, Somerset, Ky., and a cum laude graduate of Eastern Kentucky University with a bachelor of science degree in mathematics-teaching.

Robert is a graduate of Jonathan Alder High School, Plain City, Ohio; Eastern Kentucky University with a bachelor of science degree in fire and safety engineering technology; and the University of Cincinnati with an associate degree in technical studies of paramedics.

He is a full-time firefighter and paramedic at Pleasant Valley Joint Fire District in Plain City, Ohio.

A spring wedding is planned.
