Leo and Laura Weddle were recent guests at a LaGrange’s Kentucky Historical Society dinner which honored Dr. E. Bruce Heilman for his lifetime achievement, after the publication of his autobiography, An Interruption that Lasted a Lifetime.
Dr. Heilman’s long and distinguished career includes serving as president of the University of Richmond, Richmond, Va., 1971-1986, and chancellor from 1986 until the present.
He has also held numerous executive positions at various other colleges and universities, including Georgetown College (Georgetown, Ky.), Vanderbilt University and Meredith College (Raleigh, N.C.).
Dr. Heilman has also played a very large role in the growth and development of Campbellsville University.
The Student Center at Campbellsville has been named in honor of him.
The Weddles have known Dr. Heilman since the 1950s when he served as treasurer of Georgetown College where they were students.
