Malcome Coomer

obituaries

Malcome Herbert Coomer, son of the late Zeal and Mattie Girdler Coomer, was born in Somerset, Ky., on June 22, 1912 and he departed this life on Monday, June 22, 2009 having attained the age of 97 years.

He was united in marriage to Willie Lois Williams Coomer, she preceded him in death. Survivors include: Katie Mireman of Charlotte, NC, Joan Slucher of Shelbyville, Ky., Margaret Linkes of Somerset, Ky., Dan (and Ellen) Coomer and Mackey (and Pam) Coomer all of Somerset, KY; 11 grandchildren, Gary Wireman of Charlotte, NC, Emily Stewart of Charlotte, NC, Mary Jo Newton of Shelbyville, Ky., Kenneth Slucher of Shelbyville, Ky., Sally Bingham of Shelbyville, Ky., Robert Belwood of Somerset, Ky., Mark Coomer of New York, NY, Mathew Coomer of Lexington, Ky., Mackie Wilson of Somerset, Ky., B.J. Coomer of Somerset, Ky., Elsie Shockey of Edgewood, Ky.; and 18 great grandchildren.

Other than his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by five brothers, Charles, Lester, Raymond, Roy and Carl Coomer; one sister, Imogene Godbey; one grandson, Maurice Lee Belwood, Jr.; and three sons-in-law, Kenneth Slucher, Ronald Linkes and Billy Wireman.

Malcome was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He was co-owner of West Somerset Wrecking from 1951 to 1976. He was a kind peson who will be missed by those who knew him. He leaves a host of relatives and friends who mourn his passing.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 25 at the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home with Dr. French Harmon officiating. Burial will follow in the Bishop Cemetery.

The family of Mr. Malcome Coomer will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home from 11 a.m. until after services.

In lieu of flowers the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Hospice of Lake Cumberland.
