Flonnie Polston

Flonnie Polston, 100, of Somerset, Ky., went to her heavenly home Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009.

She was born in Jabez, Ky., on Aug. 26, 1908, to the late Grover and Ella Smith McGowan. On Jan. 10, 1926, she married Arvel Estel Polston and they celebrated 68 years together before he was called to his home in Heaven.

She was a faithful Christian and a charter member of the Calvary Separate Baptist Church in Nancy, Ky. She loved and served the Lord and taught her family to do the same. She will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren, family and friends.

She is survived by two daughters, Ilene (and Floyd) Wilson of Brownsburg, Ind., and Eudene (and Wendell) Minton, Somerset; four sons, Arlo (and Lavern) Polston and Albert (and Mildred) Polston, both of Somerset, and Clyde (and Margaret) Polston and Falus (and Lois) Polston, both of Indianapolis, Ind.; two sisters, Gracie Smith and Gertrude (and Edsel) Polston, both of Somerset; and a brother, Leon (and Christine) McGowan of Plainfield, Ind. She was blessed with 14 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Tina McGowan Stephens, Alverta McGowan Polston, Millie Elsie McGowan Wiggington, Mary Bell McGowan Polston, and Velma Beatrice McGowan Stephens; her brothers, Falus Clyde McGowan, Ezra B. McGowan, Ova Ottis McGowan, and Marvin McGowan; a son, Jerry Lee Polston; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be held today, Jan. 9, at 5 p.m. at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Ky. 80, Somerset.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, Jan. 10, at 11 a.m. at the Calvary Separate Baptist Church, Nancy, with Brother Richie Curtis, Brother Mark Polston, and Brother Matthew Dalton officiating.

Burial will follow at Military Springs Cemetery, Jabez.
