Walter Lowery

Walter O. Lowery, 76, of Somerset, passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2008 at his residence.

He was born on March 30, 1932 in Somerset, the son of Virgil and Eliza Ann Cook Lowery. He was a self-employed auto parts dealer and successful businessman. Mr. Lowery loved riding golf carts and four-wheelers, the outdoors, operating heavy equipment, music, and his family. He was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Lowery is survived by his wife Dorothy Thompson Lowery, whom he married on September 14, 1950 in Somerset; three sons, Jerry (and Michelle) Lowery of Clarksville, Ohio, Ronnie (and Kathy) Lowery of Morrow, Ohio, and Donnie Lowery of Middletown, Ohio; a daughter, Sandra Burdette of Fairfield, Ohio; a brother, Jimmy Lowery of Somerset; two sisters, Connie Marie (and Ken) Hicks of Sparta, Ky., and June (Roy) Thompson of Somerset; seven grandchildren, Shelly Shelton, Christina Franzone, Hope Sowders, Jamie Byrd, Brandon Lowery, Crystal Lowery, and Rochel Lowery; three great grandchildren, Katie Franzone, Braden Lowery, and Brenna Lowery; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a son, Gary Lowery; a daughter, Rita Steinmetz; five brothers, Varner Eugene, Johnnie, Charlie, Elmer, and Wallace Lowery.

Visitation for Mr. Lowery will be after 6 p.m. today at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80, Somerset.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 31 at 1 p.m. at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Raymond Ridner and Bro. Dallas Burton officiating.

Burial will follow in the Cumberland Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Hospice of Lake Cumberland, 100 Parkway Drive, Somerset, KY 42503.
