Lucille Lane

Lucille Oakes Lane, 69, of Nancy, Ky., passed away on Friday, December 26, 2008 at the UK Medical Center in Lexington, Ky.

She was born on August 17, 1939 in Jabez, Ky., the daughter of the late Orvis and Icie Carrender Oakes. She was a retired manager of the Sullivan's Grocery and of the Baptist faith. She loved bird watching, gardening, flowers, and her fishpond. Mrs. Lane loved children of all ages and her extended family.

Mrs. Lane is survived by her husband, David B. Lane, whom she married on December 22, 1986 in Jabez, Ky.; a daughter, Patricia (and Gary) Sargent of Whitley City, Ky.; two stepchildren, Patricia (and Don) Sidwell of Monticello, Ky. and Phillip (and Carol) Lane of Somerset; eight grandchildren, Angel, Cherish and Matthew Sargent, Brandy (and Jason) Lee, Rachel and Courtney Sidwell, Travis and Emily Lane; two great grandchildren, Rueben and Nathan Lee; two sisters, Drettie (and Zolla) Miller of Indiana and Sharon (and Ron) Brock of Indiana; four brothers, N.E. (and Joyce) Oakes of Jabez, Ky., R.V. (and Karen) Oakes of Jabez, Ky., Mervin (and Janet) Oakes of Indiana, and Clyde (and Mildred) Oakes of Jabez, Ky.; a sister-in-law, Ruby Oakes of Indiana; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Orvis and Icie Oakes and a brother, Ervin “Bill” Oakes.

Visitation for Mrs. Lane will be at 5 p.m. today at the Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80, Somerset.

Funeral service will be Monday, December 29 at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Herald Wright officiating. Burial will follow in the Military Springs Cemetery in Jabez, Ky.
