Carrie Aileen Smallwood Howard, 77 of Somerset, died on Saturday, December 5, 2009 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital following a long illness.
She was born on Tuesday, May 10, 1932 in Waynesburg to Joda Smallwood, Sr., and Mabel (and Moore) Smallwood. Carrie was a military wife for 26 years, enjoyed fishing, playing penny-ante poker, and a champion bowler in San Antonio, Texas. She enjoyed her children and grandchildren and recently held her 6 month old grandson.
Carrie was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Jeffrey W. Howard; and two brothers, Joda "Bert" Smallwood, Jr. and Billy Joe Smallwood.
Carrie is survived by her husband, to whom she wed on February 2, 1954, James M. Howard of Somerset; a son Mark S. Howard (and his wife Millie) of Ashburn, Virginia; a daughter Denise A. Troxell (and her husband Vince) of Somerset; four grandchildren, Matthew D. Howard, Heather A. Kiefer, Kathryn A. Howard and Robbin M. Toumberlin; a great-grandson Wyatt Dawson Kiefer; sisters Wanda Jean Johnson of London; and Bonnie Smallwood of Waynesburg.
A remembrance of Life Service will be held at 1 p.m., today at Barnett & Demrow Funeral Home, Waynesburg with Bro. Delmer Gross officiating.
Burial will be in KP Hall Cemetery.
Visitation was held Monday, December 7.
