Oma Pence

obituaries

Oma Pence, 82, of Somerset, Ky., passed away on Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009, at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

Born on Jan. 17, 1927, in Somerset, she was daughter of the late Henry Jackson and Elizabeth Wilson Girdler. Mrs. Pence was a retired secretary for the J. Heber Lewis Oil Company and a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. She loved sharing time with her grandchildren.

Mrs. Pence is survived by her son, Gary Steven (and Tammy) Pence of Somerset; two brothers, Roy F. (and Minnie) Girdler of Somerset and Brent (and Joyce) Girdler of Muncie, Ind.; two sisters, Lena McPheron of Somerset and Nina Blevins of Somerset; two grandchildren, Joshua Steven Pence and Alexander Scott Pence; and two sisters-in-law, Marie Girdler of Somerset and Mildred Girdler of Somerset.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Henry Jackson and Elizabeth Wilson Girdler; husband, Henry Pence, whom she married on Feb. 4, 1949, in Somerset; a son, James Pence; two brothers, Edward and Henry P. Girdler; and two sisters, Lucy E. Girdler and twin sister, Nora “Toe Toe” Neikirk.

Visitation will be today, Nov. 24, at 5 p.m. at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80, Somerset.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 25, at 10 a.m. at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. David Morris and Bro. Marty Shadoan officiating.

Burial will be in the Tanner Cemetery.

The family requests expressions of sympathy may be made to the Gideon Memorial Bible Fund, P.O. Box 27, Somerset, Ky., 42502.
