Hettie Cowan

obituaries


Hettie Cowan, daughter of the late John and Mattie Branscum Nevels, was born on Dec. 25, 1925, and she departed this life in the presence of her family on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2009, having attained the age of 83 years.

She was first united in marriage to Tommie Cassada. He preceded her in death. She later met and married Lee Estle Cowan on Nov. 28, 1953. He also preceded her in death.

Survivors include four children, Patsy (and Lewis) Hudson of Indianapolis, Ind., Sue (and Larry) Young of Brownsburg, Ind., Bruce Lee Cowan of Science Hill, Ky., and Steve (and Debbie) Cowan of Eubank, Ky.; two brothers, Cecil (and Martha) Nevels of Bronston, Ky., and Richard (and Faye) Nevels of Toney, Ala.; two sisters, Mary Weaver of Frazier, and Easter (and John) Ent of Muncie, Ind.; the following grandchildren: Becky (and Steve) Beddow of Brownsburg, Ind., Jeff Mize of Greencastle, Ind., Herman Leon (and Stefanie) Hudson of Richardson, Texas, Scott Allen Hudson of Indianapolis, Ind., Brandon Cowan and Jordon Cowan, both of Eubank, Ky., and Chelsea Cowan of Science Hill, Ky.; two great-grandchildren, Taylor Mize of Brownsburg, Ind., and Jessica (and Jeremy) Linn of Brownsburg, Ind.; and one great-great-grandchild, Caden Mize.

Other than her parents and husbands, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Henry and Oval Nevels; one brother-in-law, Marion Correll; two sisters, Lora Correll and Beulah Nevels; one sister-in-law, Rosemary Nevels; and one grandson, David Mize.

Hettie was retired from the Palm Beach Company, having given 48 years of service. She was also a very patriotic person who loved her Lord, her country and her family and friends. She was a kind person who will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She leaves a host of other relatives and friends who mourn her passing.

Funeral services will be held at the Pulaski Funeral Home at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, with Rev. Larry Butte, Bro. David Carr and Dr. Robert Drake officiating.

Burial will follow in the Mill Springs National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Pulaski Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Sunday, Nov. 15.
