Howard Lamkin

obituaries

Howard Keith Lamkin, 51, of Somerset, Ky., passed away peacefully on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009.

He was born Dec. 6, 1957 to Phyllis E. Lamkin and the late Tom Lamkin in Huntingburg, Ind. Howard was a 1976 graduate of Somerset High School. He attended Eastern Kentucky University on a football scholarship and was a member of the 1978 National Championship Football Team. He was a long-time employee of the Wal-Mart Corporation, most recently employed in Somerset, Ky. and a former employee of Winn Dixie. Howard enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson, being outdoors and was a avid athlete. He served on the board of the American Red Cross.

Howard is survived by his mother, Phyllis E. Lamkin; his two children, Keith Scott and Kayla Marie Lamkin, both of Corbin, Ky.; two sisters, Beth Ann (Michael) Duncan of Somerset, Ky. and Ann Marie (Steve) Jewell of Corbin, Ky.; two nephews, Matthew and Tucker Jewell, also of Corbin, Ky.; and two uncles, Robert E. Carnahan of Huntingburg, Ind. and Jerry W. Lamkin of Jasper, Ind. Survivors also include a very special friend Toni Jackson of Stanford, Ky. and many other family and friends that will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his father Tom Lamkin; maternal grandparents, H. Earl and Ethel M. Carnahan; paternal grandparents, Murrell F. and Lula A. Lamkin; a sister, Karen Lee; and a brother, Warren Scott Lamkin.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2009 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Somerset Undertaking Company, 113 North Main Street, Somerset, Ky.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. with the funeral beginning at 11 a.m. with Rev. Ric Holladay officiating. Burial will be in the Somerset Cemetery.

Somerset Undertaking & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
