Mae Marcum Whitmire, 94, passed away on October 30, 2009 with her family by her side in Jacksonville, Fla.

A viewing will be held from 4-7 p.m. today at Corey-Kerlin Funeral Home, 940 Cesery Blvd in Jacksonville, Fla. A graveside service will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery in Nancy, Ky., on Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 11 a.m.

Mae was born on August 9, 1915 in Somerset, Ky. Her parents were Henry Barrett Marcum and Lectie Catherine Marcum (Burton ). Her husband, Jeff Whitmire predeceased her on July 14, 1994. Mae came from a large family of 16 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her brothers Cecil Marcum, and H.B Marcum Jr. She also has her sisters Betty Lou McGurrin and Edna Miller. Her children are Connie Ann Pace, Betty Sarah Whitmire and Johnny L. Whitmire. Her grandchildren include Renee’ Constance Pace, Natalie Susan Pace, Gregory and Allison and Melissa Whitmire and Jeffrey James Marcum. She also has two great grandchildren, Nathan and Nalanie Riley (Pace).

Mae lived in many cities, including Buffalo NY, Knoxville, Tenn., and Atlanta Ga. She also spent a good portion of her life in Miami, Fla. , where she met her husband James D. Whitmire (Jeff). Together they raised three children. Jeff was drafted into the Army and went off to fight in World War II. He returned as wounded veteran. They moved to Jacksonville in 1968.

Mae devoted much of her time and energy to family members. She enjoyed gardening, baking, sewing and craftwork. She also had a great love of animals, especially her many dogs and cats. All the family will miss her dearly.

Pulaski Funeral Home is honored to be handling all local arrangements for Mrs. Mae Marcum Whitmire.
