Lloyd Sears

obituaries

Lloyd W. Sears, age 92 of Somerset, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009 at the Thomas Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore, Ky.

Born on Nov. 29, 1916 in Ula, Ky., he was the son of the late James Arthur and Lona Hail Sears. Mr. Sears was a WWII Army Air Corp veteran and a retired clerk for the Southern Railway, working for 32 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church since 1963 and member of the Glen Gover Sunday School Class. He enjoyed leading the singing at church and loved gospel music. During his childhood he sang in the family gospel quartet with his father and brothers, the original

“Buck Creek Quartet.” Mr. Sears was avid gardener and fisherman and a devoted U.K. Basketball fan.

He was a 1936 graduate of the Mt. Victory High School and a graduate of Rogers School of Business.

He is survived by his son, Robert "Bob" Lee (and Jeanette) Sears of Stearns, Ky.; two brothers, Leonard (and Elva) Sears of Somerset and Cecil Sears of Centerville, Ohio; three nephews, Wilson Sears, John David Sears, and James Roberts; and several great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins, and many friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents and his wife, Norma Helen Estes Sears, whom he married on Feb. 17, 1950 and who passed away on Jan. 5, 2005.

Visitation for Mr. Sears will be Sunday, Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80, Somerset.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, Nov. 2 at 3 p.m. at the Memory Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Cochran and Dr. David Jeffares officiating. Burial will be in the Science Hill Cemetery.

The American Legion Post #38 Honor Guard will conduct full military honors for Mr. Sears.

The family requests expressions of sympathy be made to the Science Hill Garden Club Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 186 Science Hill, Ky. 42553 and/or Gideon Memorial Bible Plan, P.O. Box 27, Somerset, Ky. 42502

Lake Cumberland Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for Lloyd W. Sears.
