Jerry Toney

obituaries

Jerry Wendell Toney, 68, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, at his home in Tateville, Ky.

He was born on Jan. 20, 1941, in Tateville, the son of Georgia Godsey Toney and the late Theodore Paul Toney. He retired as a maintenance worker for the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital and was a member of the Tateville Baptist Church. Mr. Toney loved to read books, keep up with the news, and he enjoyed his grandchildren and family. In his younger days, he loved to fish, and when his children were little he loved to take rides and have picnics.

Mr. Toney is survived by his mother, Georgia Godsey Toney of Burnside, Ky.; his wife, Dorothy Hill Toney, whom he married on July 18, 1962, in Somerset; a son, Jerry “Kenny” (and Sheila) Toney of Burnside; two daughters, Kimberly (and Rob) Wright of North Carolina and Juanita Toney of Burnside; a sister, Anita Troxtell of Burnside; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren; 27 nephews; and 20 nieces.

Preceding him in death was his father, Theodore Paul Toney; three brothers, Madison Toney, Theodore Paul “Butch” Toney Jr., and Hershell “Jergan” Toney; a sister, Debbie Nunnemaker; and a nephew.

Visitation will be Saturday, Oct. 24, at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with a funeral service to follow at 1 p.m. Bro. J.S. New will officiate.

Burial will be in the Tateville Cemetery.

Pallbearers for Mr. Toney will be Jerry “Kenny” Toney, Juanita Toney, Kristopher Scott, Joshua Toney, Tracey Toney, and Casey Toney.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Jerry Wendell Toney Memorial Fund, c/o Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.
