Raleigh Osborne

obituaries

Raleigh Osborne, 63, of Somerset, KY went home to be with the Lord on October 13, 2009. Born August 5, 1946 in Hyden, Ky., in Leslie County, he was the son of the late Gillie and Bessie Holland Osborne.

He owned and operated Raleigh Cement Contractor (Ohio) starting in 1966 and retiring in 1985 after receiving many distinguished awards and achievements. He then established R & L Farm (Somerset, Ky.) in 1985. He was widely known and respected for his honesty and hard work. An avid hunter, with a great love for the outdoors, he loved bluegrass gospel music, and was infamous for his talented woodworking and unique walking sticks and lamps. He opened his home to many who took refuge during troubled times over the years. He became a brother in Christ on February 21, 2009, receiving Jesus Christ into his heart at West 80 Pentecostal Church, London, Ky. and being baptized at Woods Creek Lake. His greatest joy was spending time making memories with his precious grandchildren. Lovingly known at "Pa", his laughter brought sunshine to those around him.

Survivors include his devoted wife, helpmate and rock of 43 years, Lois Gibson Osborne; a son, David Osborne; a daughter, Donna Osborne Grimsley; 2 beautiful and blessed grandchildren, Raleigh and Rebecca Grimsley, all of Somerset, Ky.; seven brothers and three sisters; and many cherished nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister.

Visitation for Mr. Osborne will be on Friday, October 16, 2009 at 5 p.m. at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Ky. 80, Somerset.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 17, 2009 at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Rod Shackleford and Bro. Herman Hamilton officiating.

Burial will be in the Mize Family Cemetery, Shopville, Ky.

Lake Cumberland Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements for Raleigh Osborne.
