Martha Maxine Lucas Patterson, 81, of Cleo Patterson Road in Kings Mountain, Ky., passed away Sunday, August 30, 2009 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
A Casey County native, she was born March 13, 1928, daughter of the late Luther Washington and Myra Delk Lucas. She was a member of Family Worship Center in Waynesburg. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt.
She is survived by five children, Dianne Patterson of Danville, Ky., Larry (and Vera) Patterson of Stanton, Ky., Melinda (and Donald) Spencer of Paducah, Ky., Donna (and Ricky) Floyd of Waynesburg, and Janet (and Dennis) Stringer of Kings Mountain, Ky.; 14 grandchildren, Bobby (and Doug) Haney of Science Hill, Monica(and Richard) Avera of Science Hill, Larry Patterson Jr. of Somerset, Cassie (and Chad) Tyner of Windsor, Ky., Kevin (and Erin) Floyd of Catlettsburg, Ky., Jason (and Tiffanie) Stringer of Kings Mountain, Jessica Stringer of Kings Mountain, James Christopher (and Stacie) Tipton of Stanton, Ky., Stephen Derrickson (and Brooke) Tipton of Bardstown, Ky., Stanley Thomas Tipton of Stanton, Ky., Earl Spencer and Zarra Spencer of Oneida, Tenn., Daniel Spencer, serving in the United States Air Force stationed in Guam and Donald (and Ellie) Spencer Jr., serving in the United States Navy SEABEES, stationed in Los Angeles, Calif.; 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cleo Patterson of Casey County, whom she married on September 6, 1949. They were married 54 years and 22 days. She was also preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters,including Bertha Lucas, Effie Lucas, Ada Carrier, Mary Presley, Frank Lucas, Reid Lucas, Edsil Lucas, Joseph Lucas and three infant siblings.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 2 at Family Worship Center in Waynesburg.
Burial will be in Falconbury Cemetery, Ky. 837 in Walltown, Ky.
Visitation will be after 6 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Casey County.
