Cary E. Shannon, 52, of Brandenburg, Ky., passed away Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009.
He was a human resource specialist for the Census Bureau Department of Commerce, Jeffersonville, Ind. He was a 1975 graduate of Stuart High School and went on to attend the University of Kentucky, where he graduated in 1979 with a degree in political science.
He retired as a Major from the U.S. Army Reserves. He received the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal 1st OLC, Army Achievement Medal 2nd OLC, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Army Service Ribbon and Overseas Service Ribbon.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy Arnold; parents, Clayton and Nelda Shannon; brother, Parker (and Tena) Shannon of Georgetown, Ky.; sister, Debra (and David) Roby of Clinton, Tenn.; mother-in-law, Betty Arnold of Somerset, Ky.; sister-in-law, Sabrina (and David) Morse of Frankfort, Ky.; five nieces and nephews; and nine great nieces and great nephews.
His service will be at noon on Thursday, Aug. 27, at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Hwy., with burial in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central, Radcliffe, Ky. Visitation will be today, Aug. 26, from 2 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to USO Service Members or to PINS: Pets in Need Society, Brandenburg, Ky.
