obituaries


Verna Ruckel Burton, 93, of Eubank, Ky., passed away Thursday, March 18, 2010, at her residence.

She was born in Eubank, Ky., on April 24, 1916, daughter of the late Harry and Lucretia Baugh Ruckel. She was a homemaker and a member of Briary Union Church.

She is survived by one son, Jan (and Dianne) Burton of Eubank; two daughters, Geraldine (and Ray) Owens of Jamestown, Tenn., and Jackie (and Loren) Singleton of Lewisburg, Ohio; two brothers, Rowen (and Norma) Ruckel of Florida and Clyde (and Dora) Ruckel of Florida; seven grandchildren, Doug (and Faye) Singleton of Lewisburg, Ohio, Deron (and Mary) Singleton of West Alexandria, Ohio, Carla (and Rudy) Lunsford of Eaton, Ohio, Jimmie (and Tammy) Owens of New Lebanon, Ohio, Karen (and Randy) Campbell of Dayton, Ohio, Mark (and Bekki) Burton of Science Hill, Ky., and Cara Burton of Eubank; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Burton, whom she married on Jan. 26, 1934; her parents; three brothers, Henry Ruckel, Albert Ruckel and Robert Ruckel; and three sisters, Mabel Ruckel Baston, Viola Ruckel Burton and Mammie Ruckel.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today, March 21, at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home with Bro. Richard West officiating.

Burial will be in Eubank Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 8 a.m. today at Morris & Hislope Funeral Home.
