Anna Lois New, age 73 of Somerset, departed this life on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
She was born on Oct. 29, 1936 in the East Somerset community, the daughter of Cecil and Lela Sears Smiley. She was a homemaker and member of the High Street Baptist Church. Mrs. New enjoyed gardening, cooking, flowers, and her family.
Mrs. New is survived by her husband, Hugh F. New, whom she married on July15, 1953 in Eubank, Ky.; two sons, Cecil Lee (and Paula) New of Cincinnati, Ohio and Hugh Malcolm (and Ruth Ann) New of Louisville, Ky.; a daughter, Laura Jean Hounchell (and Henry Ford) of Somerset; two brothers, Starlin (and Elaine) Smiley of Goodyear, Ariz. and Alex (and Brenda) Smiley of Nashville, Tenn.; and two grandchildren, Jonathan W. New and Mary E. New.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Cecil and Lela Smiley; and two brothers, Richard and David Smiley.
Visitation for Mrs. New will be Thursday, March 18 at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with her funeral service at 6 p.m. Pastor Ed Amundson, Bro. Sammie Adkins, and Bro. C.E. Jacobs will officiate.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, March 19 at 10 a.m. at Lakeside Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers for Mrs. New will be Jonathan New, Gary Smiley, Cecil New, Malcolm New, Starlin Smiley, and Alex Smiley.
