Roberta Dykes

Roberta Dean Jasper Dykes, age 68 of Somerset, departed this life on Monday, March 15, 2010 at the Britthaven of Somerset.

She was born on March 22, 1941 in the Slate Branch community of Pulaski County, the daughter of George G. and Clara D. Vaughn Jasper. Mrs. Dykes worked for over 15 years as a Certified Medical Assistant for Britthaven of Somerset. She was a member of the Denham Street Baptist Church and attended Canaan Baptist Church.

Mrs. Dykes is survived by her husband, Clifton "Sonny" W. Dykes, whom she married June 15, 1963 in Trenton, Ga.; mother, Clara D. Jasper of Somerset; a son, Donovan W. Dykes of Somerset; a stepson, Clifton E. Dykes of Pueblo, Colo.; two daughters, Drema D. McQueen of Somerset, Ky. and Dinah Dykes Groce (and husband, Tracy) of Clarksville, Tenn.; two stepdaughters, Liz (and Roy) Messenger of Somerset and Mary Lou Dykes of Science Hill, Ky.; two brothers, Clifford P. (and Millie) Jasper of Somerset and Jimmy (and Michele) Jasper of Somerset; five sisters, Doris (and Oscar) Randall of Somerset, Georgia Lou (and Elwood) Hunt of Somerset, Ruth (and Jim) Jeffers of Somerset, Barbara Burton of Somerset, and Arlene (and Bert) Young of Somerset; four grandchildren, Jasmine Fisher, Craig McQueen, Hannah Groce, and Darian Dykes; five stepgrandchildren, Megan Dykes, Vanessa Dykes, Cinnamon Dykes, Tiffany Dykes, and Dustin Dykes; 12 great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Nina Jasper of Somerset and Norma Jasper of Somerset.

Preceding her in death were her father, George G. Jasper; a stepdaughter, Pamela Garrett; two brothers, Galen C. Jasper and Virgil C. Jasper; a step grandchild, Renee Pitman; and a niece, Christi Jasper.

She was one of a kind, a loving wife, mother, sister, and daughter. She will be missed by all that knew her. "Don't grieve for me, for now I'm free."

Visitation for Mrs. Dykes will be today, Thursday, March 18 at 5 p.m. at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Highway 80, Somerset.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 19 at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. J.S. New and Bro. Brian Plants officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers for Mrs. Dykes will be Travis Rogers, Brian Rogers, Clifford Jasper Jr., Marty Hunt, Victor Jasper, Jeff Hail, and Bruce Hail.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to the Denham Street Baptist Church and/or American Cancer Society.

Arrangements for Roberta Dean Jasper Dykes are entrusted to Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.
