Roberta Settles

obituaries

Roberta Fogle Settles, 95, previously of Somerset, passed away Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at St. Elizabeth Hospital Hospice Unit in Edgewood, Ky. She was born August 1, 1914 to the late Robert McDowell and Berta Carr (Murphy) Fogle in Yosemite, Ky.

She was the wife of the late Bromie E. Settles. They were married January 18, 1936 in Middlesburg, KY.

Roberta retired as plant nurse from Lear Siegler Corp. She loved and enjoyed her family, friends and neighbors. She was a member of DAR and enjoyed participating in Homemakers and the many organizations of her church, First Baptist Church of Somerset. She and Bromie were members of the church for 63 years. Roberta and

Bromie enjoyed their travels throughout the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii; also to New Zealand, Australia, and Europe.

Roberta is survived by her two daughters, Martha Settles (and Gerald Stuart) Cassity and Linda Settles (and Richard) Jasper; her six grandchildren, Amber Cassity (and David) Cronen, William Paul (Jennie) Cassity, Cameron McNew, Kelly McNew, Abigail Jasper and Amelia Jasper; four great-grandchildren, Colton McNew, Katelyn Lanning, Grayson Lanning, and Madeline Cronen.

Roberta is preceded in death by her beloved husband, parents, and son, Benjamin E. Settles, and her nine siblings, Catherine Fogle Cubert, Martha Fogle Short, Francis Gordon Fogle, James McDowell Fogle, Mary Louise Fogle Kaufman, Margaret Leona Fogle Bucciere, LaNelle Fogle Clack, William R. Fogle, and Thomas K. Fogle.

Visitation for Roberta Settles will be on Friday, August 7 at the chapel of Somerset Undertaking & Crematory from 1:30 to 3 p.m.

A funeral ceremony honoring the life of Roberta will follow at 3 p.m. at the chapel of Somerset Undertaking & Crematory with Bro. David Pendley officiating.

Interment will be at the Lakeside Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that contributions take the form of donations to the Somerset First Baptist Church.

Somerset Undertaking & Crematory is in charge of all arrangements for Roberta Settles.
