George Johnston

obituaries

George R. “Mountain Man” Johnston, 72, of Somerset, Ky., passed away Monday, March 8, 2010, at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

Mr. Johnston was born in Champaign, Ill., on March 19, 1937, to the late George Edward and Dorothy L. Spry Johnston. He loved fishing, interaction with wolves, home, traveling, and was an avid outdoorsman. Mr. Johnston was a twin and of the Methodist faith.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy Ann Johnston, whom he married July 4, 2008, at Wesley’s Chapel; a son, George R. (and Michele) Johnston Jr., Villa Park, Ill.; a daughter, Nancy (and Pastor) Leguizamon, Glendale Hts., Ill.; two stepsons, Thomas (and Jeanne) Cooney, Bensenville, Ill., and Timothy Cooney, Lisle, Ill.; three stepdaughters, Colleen (and Mike) Lomma, Addison, Ill., Kathleen (and John) Wargo, Niles, Ill., and Debra (and Christopher) Lorden, Lake-in-the-Hills, Ill.; a sister, Dorothy Thess, Orange, Calif.; 19 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, John H. Thess.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 12, at 6 p.m. at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 W. Hwy. 80, Somerset.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 13, at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home at 10 a.m. with Bro. Stanley Sears officiating.

Interment will follow in Wesley’s Chapel Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Wolf Park Organization.
