Burnita Ann Anderson, age 58, of Somerset, departed this life on Sunday, March 7, 2010 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
Burnita was born on Dec. 29, 1951 in Harlan, Ky., the daughter of Louis Cowser and Juanita Anderson Coffey. She was a retired claims clerk for the Social Security Administration and she attended the Davis Chapel A.M.E. Burnita accepted Christ as a teenager at the Maple Street Baptist Church in Somerset, Ky. She served as president of the Dunbar Alumni Association.
She is survived by her mother, Juanita Coffey; a daughter, Dawnita Jackson of Somerset; a granddaughter, Drewcila Jackson; three brothers, Greg (and Diane) Cowser of Mich., Cornell E. (and Cherie) Coffey, and Kenneth M. (and Katrina) Coffey; and a sister, Terri Lynn (and Raymond) Reynolds Hardwick, all of Somerset, Ky.; two aunts, Arniece Hollowell of Paducah, Ky. and Myrtle Anderson of Somerset, Ky.; two uncles, George (and Gwen) Anderson of Cincinnati, Ohio and James Anderson of Buffalo; five nieces; five nephews; five great-nieces; eight great-nephews; and a host of cousins and friends. She is also survived by close family friends Cristy Coffey, Jack Reynolds, Lisa (and Hiram) Shouse, Marchetta (and Tony) Lovell, and Mrs. Maxine Garrett.
Burnita was preceded in death by her father, Louis Cowser; three aunts, Jesse Jackson, Helen Dupree, and Bobbie Holts; two uncles, Henry Anderson and Emmitt Holts; two cousins, Greg Miller and Brian Holts; and a nephew, Josh Reynolds.
Visitation for Burnita will be Thursday, March 11 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 4 p.m.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital for going way beyond the call of duty. Also, a big "thank you" to friends and churches for prayers.
