Somerset, Ky —
Josie Gadberry Southerland, 88, of Somerset, Ky., formerly of the Jabez community, departed this life on Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.
She was born on July 4, 1921, in Jabez, Ky., the daughter of Charlie M. and Edna Susan Zimmerman Gadberry. Mrs. Southerland was homemaker and a member of the Denham Street Baptist Church. She loved quilting, working circle-a-word puzzles, flowers, traveling, singing, fishing, camping, and the outdoors.
Mrs. Southerland is survived by her husband, William “Bill” Southerland Jr., whom she married on Sept. 1, 1983, in Faubush, Ky.; four sons, Arnold Winston (and Kay) Denney of Bronston, Ky., James Phillip (and Patty) Denney of Wyoming, Del., Jackie Eugene (and Marie) Denney of Unicoi, Tenn., and Bill (and Sue) Denney of Faubush, Ky.; four daughters, Evelyn Marie (and Desmon Keith) Daulton of Somerset, Janice Louise Denney Marcum of Somerset, Kathryn Sue (and Eddie) Corder of Monticello, Ky., and Karen Elaine Mofield of Nancy, Ky.; two stepsons, William Steve Southerland of Virginia and Larry (and Pam) Southerland of Michigan; three stepdaughters, Rita Southerland (and Gary) Stoner of Michigan, Brenda Southerland (and Jake) Powell of Virginia, and Betty Southerland (and Mike) Callahan of Alabama; a brother, Charlie Glen (and Mary Ruth) Gadberry of Indiana; and three sisters-in-law, Ruth Gadberry, Marie Gadberry, and Myreace Gadberry; 31 grandchildren and step grandchildren; and 47 great grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; two previous husbands, Walter Denney and Ed Cook; a stepson, Gary Southerland; a step grandson, Lonnie Venneman; four brothers, Leonard, Willard, James, and Arvis Gadberry; three sisters, Bessie Gadberry Hart, Eva Gadberry Brummett, and Dorothy Gadberry Ard; an infant sister, Lucy Irene Gadberry; and two sons-in-law, Joe Moistner and Johnnie Henderson.
Visitation will be today, May 7, at 6 p.m. at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Hwy. 80, Somerset.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 8, at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. J.S. New, Bro. Bruce Conley, and Bro. David Muse officiating.
Burial will be in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
The family requests expressions of sympathy be made to the Denham Street Baptist Church Building Fund and/or Gideons Memorial Bible Plan.
