Willard "Gene" Pitman, age 65 of Somerset, departed this life on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012 at the Sunrise Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. Pitman was born on Oct. 29, 1946 in Somerset, Ky. to the late Denton and Wilma Grace LaFavers Pitman. He was a retired mechanic with the Pulaski County Road Department and of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Pitman married Beverly Lynn Wall Pitman on Feb. 14, 1976 in Faubush, Ky. and she survives him.
He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and also an excellent mechanic and an avid NASCAR fan.
Along with his wife, he is survived by two sons, Roy L. (and Rebecca) Pitman of Somerset and Anthony (and Jennifer) Pitman of Nancy, Ky.; two grandchildren, Tyler Lee Pitman and Colton Eugene Pitman; three sisters, Marie Meece of Russell Springs, Ky., Anna Lee Compton of Somerset, and Judy (and Ricky) Tucker of Nancy, Ky.; and two brothers, William (and Sheila) Pitman of Cincinnati, Ohio and Jimmy Pitman of Somerset, Ky.
The Pitman family will receive friends on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with his funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. Bro. John Zupancic will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Willard "Gene" Pitman Memorial Fund c/o Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1441, Somerset, Ky. 42502.
Lake Cumberland Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements for Willard "Gene" Pitman.
