J. W. “Rooster” Claunch, 89, Somerset, passed away Saturday, May 17, 2008, at his residence.
He was born in Somerset on May 27, 1918, to the late James Thomas and Lilly Sewell Claunch. He was a retired salesman for Eden Appliance and member of the First United Methodist Church. He loved his family, playing golf and doing yard work. He was a United States Navy veteran of WWII.
Mr. Claunch is survived by a son, Tommy (and Elaine) Claunch, Burnside, Ky.; five grandchildren, Robbie Claunch, Mimi Joyce Loan, Jerry Lynn Starkey, Frankie Dyer and Carl Dyer; and three great-grandchildren, Wesley Haycraft, Haley Purdue and Evan Purdue.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Mildred May Hargis Claunch; a daughter, Patricia May Dyer; and a sister, Beatrice Claunch.
Funeral services for J.W. “ Rooster” Claunch will be held Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at 11 a.m. the Chapel of the Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Larry Sears Nichols officiating.
Burial will follow in the Eden Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the American Legion Post #38 Honor Guard.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday (today), May 20, 2008, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.
