William Shepherd

William Theodore "Shep" Shepherd, 86, of Somerset, Ky., passed away Monday, December 10, 2012 at Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Lexington, Ky.
He was born in Pulaski County, Ky. on May 2, 1926, son of the late John Marion and Susie Eveline Inman Shepherd. He was owner of Shep's Chick Sexing Service and a member of Campground Baptist Church. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and a member of DAV Chapter 162, a Kentucky Colonel, he was a member of Kentucky Poultry Federation Hall of Fame and Board of Directors for Lake Cumberland Community Action. He was a World War II Army veteran.
He is survived by a daughter-in-law, Brenda Gail Shepherd of Science Hill; three grandchildren, Shannon Simpson, Billie Gail (and Ryan) Martin, both of Somerset and William Jared (and Alisha) Shepherd of Science Hill; two great-grandchildren, Lilly-Ann Young and Daniel Young; one sister, Flonnie Farmer of Tipp City, Ohio; and one brother, Ancil Shepherd of Danville, Ky.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jessamine Barbour Shepherd, whom he married on January 7, 1946 and who died on July 16, 1995; one son, William "O. Shep" Shepherd, who died on December 31, 2011; and seven brothers, Lester, Roscoe, Matthew, Willard, Millard, Dewey and Silas.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today, Thursday at Campground Baptist Church with Bro. Gerald Ashley and Bro. David Muse officiating.
Burial will be in Lakeside Memorial Gardens with military honors by American Legion Post #38.
Visitation will be after 10 a.m. today at the church.
