Naomi Darnell

Naomi Dae New Darnell, 84, of Somerset, Ky., died Friday, Dec. 14, 2012 at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, Ky.
Naomi was born Aug. 20, 1928 in McVeigh, Pike County, Ky., the daughter of the late Cornelius Levi New and Lola Jane Miller New Adams. She married Paul Marion Darnell on May 12, 1948 and he preceded her in death. She was a faithful member for over 50 years at Burnside Christian Church where she was a Sunday school teacher and treasurer. Naomi was a member of a special group of ladies, the "Mama Mia's” and was retired from Oakwood Training Center (presently known as the Communities of Oakwood).
Naomi was preceded in death by her brothers, Forrest, who died as an infant, and Max E. New; and sister-in-law, Anna Lois New. 
She is survived by one brother, Hugh F. New (husband of Anna Lois) of Somerset; and sister-in-law, Freda New (wife of Max) of Barbourville, Ky.; five children, William Lewis (and Barbara Sue) Darnell of Cincinnati, Ohio, Linda Faye Darnell of Somerset; Barbara Jane (and Sam) Napier of Tiltonsville, Ohio, Alice Ruth Darnell (and Joan Norvell) of Fredericksburg, Va., and Paula Marie (and James) Embree of Louisville, Ky.
Naomi also leaves eight grandchildren, Robert Lewis Darnell, Samuel Perry (and Adrienne) Napier, James Clark (and Michelle) Embree, Lola Jane (and Luke) Embree Davidson, Matthew William Darnell, Peter Levi Embree, Jonathan Darnell Napier, Christopher JohnMark Embree; five great-grandchildren, Kyle, Katie, Adam, and Spencer Darnell (children of Robert), and Rylie Napier; a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews; and a very special friend, Oreida Freeman.
Arrangements were handled by Lake Cumberland Funeral Home. 
The funeral service was conducted by Bro. Harlan Ogle and James Embree on Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. 
The burial took place at Miller Cemetery in Greenwood, McCreary County, Ky. on Dec. 17 at 1 p.m.
