Two individuals who were injured Monday in a far northeast corner of Pulaski County have been upgraded to “fair” condition in Lexington.

John C. McCoy, 27, and Pam Dyer, 51, were airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center Monday evening after being involved in a wreck on Ky. 39 at the intersection with Ky. 328, right on the county line with both Lincoln and Rockcastle Counties.

A spokesperson for the UK Medical Center said Tuesday that both individuals were currently listed as “fair.”

McCoy was ejected from his vehicle after the 2002 Pontiac he was driving collided with a southbound 2004 Ford Taurus, driven by Dyer, at around 4 p.m., according to the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department.

The accident took place about 17 miles north of Somerset, in front of the S&M Grocery store.

Dyer was taken to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital before being airlifted to UK. McCoy was flown out from the scene of the accident.

Later Monday night, two Somerset residents were involved in an accident that proved fatal for a Rockcastle County man, according to Kentucky State Police.

At around 9:15 p.m., state troopers received a report of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of U.S. 461 and Ky. 150 in Rockcastle County.

Upon arrival, Trooper Delzie Kelly learned that a 2011 Hyundai Sonata driven by Don R. Barnett, 55, of Mt. Vernon, was headed westbound on Ky. 150 when it failed to stop for a red light and entered the path of a 2006 Dodge Caravan operated by Kimberlee R. Benien, 23, of Somerset. According to KSP, the Dodge was unable to avoid the collision and struck the Hyundai in the side.

Barnett was transported to the Rockcastle County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Benien and her passenger, Serena Howell, 23, also of Somerset, were transported to the Rockcastle County Hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Benien was treated and released, while Howell was flown to the UK Medical Center, where she is listed as stable, according to KSP.
