Pulaski man involved in accident on I-75

A Pulaski County man was involved this week in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 75.
According to Trooper Don Trosper, Public Affairs Officer with Kentucky State Police, the crash happened at around 6:20 p.m. Wednesday at the 4-mile marker on Interstate 75 in Whitley County. 
Trosper said KSP Trooper Parrish Baker determined that a 1995, black GMC van operated by Vernon N. Jacobs, 63, of Indianapolis, Ind. was traveling southbound on I-75 in the left lane, when it drifted to the right, nearly hitting a tractor-trailer. 
“The operator of the van swerved to the left to avoid contact with the tractor-trailer and lost control,” Trosper stated through a press release. “The van entered the grass median, overturned and came to rest in the northbound left lane.”
Trosper said the van was then struck by a northbound 2012 Peterbilt tractor-trailer, driven by Harold Fitzwater, 37, of Nancy, Ky.  
Fitzwater was not injured in the crash, but Jacobs and four passengers in his vehicle were transported to area hospitals for treatment of their injuries. 
Jacobs, who was seat belted, and three of his passengers, Rose Jacobs, 41, Linda
Jacobs, 51 and Christopher Thompson, 19, all of Indianapolis, Ind. were transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, according to Trosper.
Trosper said Rose Jacobs, Linda Jacobs and Thompson were not wearing seat belts when the crash occurred. 
A fourth passenger in the van, Alphonso Jacobs, Sr., 60, of Indianapolis, Ind., who was not wearing his seat belt, was transported to the Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin, Ky. with non-life threatening injuries, according to Trosper. 
No drug or alcohol usage is suspected. 
Traffic on I-75 was halted for approximately 4 hours due to the crash, Trosper said. 
Baker is continuing the investigation and was assisted at the scene by officers of the Kentucky State Police, Kentucky State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement and the Whitley County EMS.
