The holiday season is about to be in full swing, and to kick it off, one local non-profit is offering a Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings for those who may not be fortunate enough to have such a dinner this year.
“We serve so many more people on the holidays,” said Gina Gaylor, who has operated the Living Bread Soup Kitchen since its inception.
Gaylor said the soup kitchen served more than 300 people during last year’s Thanksgiving dinner.
This year, the Living Bread Soup Kitchen’s Thanksgiving dinner will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. tonight at the Somerset Community Mission, located next to Big Lots in Somerset. The organization recently relocated to Burnside, which Gaylor said isn’t yet fully equipped to handle a large-scale dinner. Gaylor said the Community Mission is just the perfect place for such an undertaking.
A Christian band will play music during today’s dinner, and there will be drama performances and door prizes given out. Gaylor said clothing will be given away as well.
Gaylor said the Living Bread Soup Kitchen has enough food and supplies and volunteers for today’s dinner, but the non-profit is collecting items for their upcoming Christmas dinner, and Gaylor said volunteers who can serve regularly are always welcome.
