Authorities have identified a woman who perished Friday in a one-vehicle crash south of Somerset.
Ferguson Police Chief David Moss, who responded to the accident located on South Ky. 1247, said Brenda Hubble, 62, of Somerset, was the driver of a 2000 GMC pickup truck on Friday afternoon when it left the roadway.
Hubble’s identity was not released Friday because authorities were still working to notify her next of kin.
Hubble’s truck veered off the west side of the road, striking a guardrail, according to Moss, and he noted those who saw the crash said Hubble didn’t appear to try to correct the truck before it struck a guardrail.
After the truck struck the guardrail, located near the intersection of South Ky. 1247 and Cooper Power Plant Road, the vehicle flipped at least twice over an embankment and came to a rest with Hubble pinned beneath the truck.
Emergency responders, including the Pulaski County Rescue Squad, were called to the scene at around 12:40 p.m. Friday, and they worked for nearly an hour to free Hubble from beneath the truck.
Moss, who is investigating the accident, said Hubble appeared to have a history of health issues, most notably cardiac issues that may have led to some type of medical emergency before the crash.
“She (Hubble) had a history of medical issues,” Moss said. “She had open heart surgery not too long ago so she was still having issues from that.”
Hubble was pronounced dead by Pulaski County Coroner Chuck Godbey, who said that the cause of death was blunt force trauma from being under the truck.
Moss said Hubble was not wearing her seat belt when the accident occurred.
“Things would’ve been very different if she’d been wearing her seat belt,” Moss said. “If she’d had it on she very well could’ve lived.”
Along with Moss and the rescue squad, the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department, Somerset-Pulaski County EMS, Ferguson Fire Department and Burnside Fire Department also responded to the scene.
