Somerset falls to Colts, 8-6, in extra inning
After jumping out to an early, 6-0 margin over Somerset, the West Jessamine Colts looked as if they would roll to an easy victory.
Not so fast though. -
Lady Jumpers sweep district with perfect mark
The Lady Jumpers mercy ruled Casey County on Wednesday night 11-1. With this win Somerset goes undefeated in district play.
“We lost last night to Garrard County 6-1, so anything looks good compared to that,” stated Somerset head coach Dave Dorsey. “We came out tonight and hit the ball well.” -
Cheuvront, Blevins shine at Eastern Relays
At this weekend’s prestigious Eastern Relays, Somerset High School junior Cam Cheuvront almost won his race and Pulaski County High School junior Mason Blevins turned in a National Elite performance and broke a longtime school record.
In, perhaps, the biggest high school track meet in the southeastern portion of the United States, two local athletes turned in stellar performances. -
Maroons complete the ‘Laurel Sweep’
With just two and a half weeks remaining in the regular season, all of a sudden the Pulaski County Maroons are stringing together their most impressive stretch of the season, seemingly hitting their stride at the perfect time.
Take Tuesday’s game against North Laurel for instance. -
Warriors down Somerset, 8-2
Thanks to a seven-run third inning, Southwestern was able to pull away from visiting Somerset to win by an 8-2 margin last night at Warrior Stadium.
After leading 1-0 to begin the inning, the homestanding Warriors plated seven runs on seven hits in the third frame to jump out to an 8-0 lead. That big inning would propel Alex Eaton’s ball club to a six-run victory, allowing them to move their record to a 12th Region best 19 wins and four losses. -
Southwestern demolishes Monticello, 18-2
Before a slew of games this weekend at Cumberland County High School, Southwestern hosted Monticello in a 48th District contest on Thursday evening at Warrior Stadium.
It was a scoring spree for the Warriors, as they plated 18 runs in an five-inning, 18-2 victory over the Monticello Trojans. With the 16-run victory over their district counterpart, Alex Eaton’s squad upped their overall record to 17-4 and moved their district mark to perfect 5-0. -
Pulaski gets district win over Casey County, 12-0
After dropping back to back one-run games to district foes Rockcastle County and Somerset in their last two outings, the Pulaski County Maroons got well and got well in a hurry on Thursday afternoon against another 47th District opponent — Casey County.
The Rebels — winless in district play and coming in with an abysmal 4-16 overall record into Thursday’s game — proved to be no match for the homestanding Maroons. -
Commonwealth Journal High School Swim All-County Team
Youth has led the way for this year’s local swim competitions.
This year’s Commonwealth Journal All-County High School Swim Team boasts four underclassmen, with a middle schooler leading the way.
Pulaski eighth-grader Carly Tomlison has been named the Commonwealth Journal High School Swimmer of the Year for the second straight season, despite the fact she is not even in high school yet. -
Warriors clinch District 48 top seed
Despite a rough start to the game, Southwestern was able to use a six-run fifth inning to take down visiting McCreary Central by a score of 8-2 on Tuesday night at Warrior Stadium.
With the six-run victory over the Raiders of McCreary Central, the Warriors of Southwestern wrapped up the number one seed for next month’s 48th District Baseball Tournament. -
Warriors, Fourman slam Bell Co., 14-1
Monday night’s win over Bell County was nothing short of a total team effort for Southwestern, as three different Lady Warrior players combined to pitch a no-hitter and eight players had at least one hit at the plate.
With the strong offensive and defensive performance, the Lady Warriors were able to cruise to a five-inning, 14-1 victory over visiting Bell County Monday evening at the War Path. - More Local Sports Headlines
