Lady Jumpers win Corbin Tourney

CORBIN — The Lady Jumpers recently traveled to Corbin to play in the Cumberland Falls Invitational Tournament. After a district win the previous Thursday at Rockcastle county, the Jumpers played Whitley County Sunday afternoon in the first round. Being lead in scoring by Rolisa Jones with 9 points, Lori Thomas with 8 points and Tiara Barnes 7 points, the Jumpers outlasted at Whitley County run to win the first round of the tournament 37-33.

On Monday, Somerset ran across a strong inside post player in D-1 prospect Ariel Nickell and the Lady's from Claiborne, TN. Jumping out to an early lead at the end of the first quarter (18-6) helped the Jumpers easily handle the visitors from Tennessee 53-40. The Jumpers, lead by junior Lori Thomas with 17 points and seniors Samantha Dorsey (9 points) and Rolisa Jones (7 points), earned a trip to the championship game against The Lady Corbin Redhounds.

A late Tuesday night tip off and a lot of physical play ensued at the Championship of the Cumberland Falls Tournament. Another quick start by the Jumpers (17-6 at the end of the first quarter) allowed the Lady Jumpers to pick up a championship win and move to 7-1 on the season. The Jumpers were lead in scoring by Junior PG Jessica Coffey (14 points) and Rolisa Jones and Samantha Dorsey with 9 points apiece.

Picking up all tournament team honors for Somerset were; Junior Jessica Coffey, Seniors Rolisa Jones, and Samantha Dorsey. Tournament MVP honors went to Junior forward Lori Thomas. In the tournament three point shoot-out on Monday, Somerset senior Samantha Dorsey took home the trophy by hitting 15-20 three point shots.
