Somerset — For the second straight year, Somerset’s David Snyder is named Commonwealth Journal’s Golfer of the Year. Snyder, a junior, finished in the top five in the Kentucky Prep Golfer of the Year rankings for the second straight year. Also, Snyder was a first-team All-State selection for the second straight year.
Snyder had tournament wins at Danville, South Laurel, Boyle County and Madison Southern. For the second straight year, Snyder placed second in the Regional Tournament.
Somerset’s Ben Purcell had a superb season by finishing as the 11th best prep golfer in the state in overall point standings. Purcell shoot a 72 to capture the regional title.
Purcell had top-5 tournament finishes at Madison Southern, Somerset and South Laurel.
Pulaski senior Chelsea Branscum ended her prep career with a flourish, as she led her Lady Maroons to back-to-back state tournament appearances. Branscum finished fourth in the region with a round of 85. Branscum had a high finish in the Lady Maroon Invitational and she earned 9 all-state points this season.
Somerset’s Kyler Barnett was the third golfer on the strong Jumper team. Barnett scored in the 70’s in three of the Jumpers’ four invitational appearances. Barnett fired a 6-over-par 78 in the Boyle County Invitational and carded an 83 in the South Laurel Invitational.
For the second consecutive season, Pulaski’s Ashley Morris was selected to the all-county team. Morris was a steady performer for the two-time regional runner-up Lady Maroons. Morris was the Lady Maroons’ number two golfer in their regional runner-up finish.
Pulaski’s Luke Elmore made his second consecutive all-county golf team as the Maroons’ top linkster. Elmore fired an 88 in the regional golf tournament.
Pulaski’s Ben Roberts was the Maroons’ number two golfer for most of the year. Roberts shot an 88 in the regional golf tournament.
