Somerset — Pulaski County High School senior RC White did it all on the gridiron during his prep career.
White will be asked to do the same thing at Campbellsville University, as the Maroon speedster signed on to play for the Tiger collegiate football program.
White amassed over 2,300 all-purpose yards as a Maroon and scored 15 career touchdowns.
Pulaski coach John Hines utilized White in several different positions, which virtually left him on the field every play. White was a wide receiver on offense, a cornerback on defense and was used as a kick-off and punt returner.
“RC White is a true threat every time he touches the ball, because he can do some may things with the ball,” Hines said of his star athlete. “As a wide receiver, he is a threat to stretch the field vertically with his speed. He is a possession receiver with good hands. He can do so much damage that he almost forces a double team in coverage. He is also dangerous as a runner. We were able to utilize RC this season by handing him the ball and letting him run — and he was fantastic in doing that.”
“Also, he is an amazing threat as a kick returner,” Hines added. “We utilized RC as a kick return and punt return guy. He really changed the way teams tried to play against us, because they were scared to kick the ball to RC and give him room to run. He took two back for touchdowns this season and only handled the ball 7 times. So, RC is a true threat when he has the football in his hands.”
White rushed for 221 yards, had 599 yards in receiving off 36 receptions, he had 428 yards in kick returns and 57 yards in punt returns. White ran back two kick-offs for touchdowns, had three defensive interceptions and scored 10 touchdowns for the season.
With those kind of all-purpose stats, many college coaches came calling on White. But it was Campbellsville University that signed the Pulaski standout to four more years of football.
“We are very excited about landing RC White,” Campbellsville University assistant football coach Ken Burress commented. “We have been looking at him since last year. So, we were in contact with him and we let him know that we were interested in him over a year ago.”
“We are happy to get hin into our program,” Burress continued. “We feel like RC will be able to come in and raise the level of play. He is fast, he is already well built as a player coming out of high school and he has a lot of football savoy. We feel like he could come in and contribute right now. That is how much respect we have for him. We are really excited to have RC, and we know we stole him from a lot of other teams.”
And while White admitted getting offers from other college programs, he was sold on the Tigers’ caring coaches in his decision process.
“I really like the coaches at Campbellsville University,” White explained. “They have always been straightforward with me and they are fun to talk to. That was my main reason for picking this college over anyone else.”
Also, White’s longtime teammate — Chris Muse — decided to play at Campbellsville, which further swayed his thoughts towards the Tiger program.
“Since we were freshmen in high school, Chris (Muse) and I had always talked about gong to the same college,” White said. “So, to actually get to do it is going to be a great experience and we are both excited.”
“My high school experience has been fun,” Whited added. “It was great being part of a team to win the school’s first football district and regional titles. Then, getting to play Highlands was a treat for me.”
His high school coach, John Hines, is looking for big things from White at the next level.
“I think RC is a prototype wide receiver for Campbellsville University,” Hines said. “He has good size, he is getting stronger and faster and he catches the ball well. He has a great work ethic and he is going to be a guy who you are going to hear about in the MidSouth Conference in the next few years as a big time receiver.”
