Lake Cumberland unbeaten in pool play

Lexington — The Lake Cumberland 12-year-old All-Stars picked up three wins this weekend in the Cal Ripken Ohio Valley Regional Tournament at Veteran’s Park.

On Friday, Lake Cumberland downed Galesburg, Ill., 13-2. On Saturday, the local baseball all-stars trounced Springfield, Ohio, 10-0. And on Sunday, Lake Cumberland blanked Mt. Vernon, Ind., 11-0.

Lake Cumberland is one of  only three teams with a prefect record in pool play. The local all-stars began elimination tournament play last night in a match-up with Howard Township, Mich.  The winner of that game will advance to the Ohio Valley Regional semifinals. The Ohio Valley tourney winner will advance to the Cal Ripken World Series in Aberdeen, Md.

In Lake Cumberland’s win over Galesburg, Ill., Logan Ramsey led the way offensively by hitting 3-for-4, driving in two runs and scoring two runs. Devin Vaught drove in two runs and  scored three runs. Trevor Howard drove in three runs, scored two runs and belted a homer. Also, Kross Grundy drove in two runs.

Landon Powell picked up the win on the mound in five innings of work. Powell only allowed one Illinois hit and struck out three batters in a shutout performance.

In Lake Cumberland’s win over Springfield, Ohio, Wade Purvis went a perfect 2-for-2 and scored a run. Devin Vaught scored three runs and slammed a homer. Logan Combs drove in two runs, while Landon Powell drove in two runs and scored a run.

Logan Combs pitched the entire game with a near perfect effort. Combs only allowed two hits, no runs scored and struck out three batters.

In Lake Cumberland’s win over Mt. Vernon, Ind., Wade Purvis batted flawless again by going 2-for-2, driving in two runs and scoring a run. Logan Ramsey drove in three runs, scored two runs and slammed a homer. Also, Kross Grundy slammed a two-run homer.

Landon Powell picked up the win on the mound in four innings of work. Powell allowed only three hits and struck out five in his shutout effort.
