Somerset — Just three years after being cleared of sodomy charges, a former Pulaski County math teacher is in hot water again.
Somerset native Ken Shadoan, 30, a teacher at Paris High School, was arrested at his Nicholas County home on Wednesday and charged with 25 counts of possession of child pornography. He is also accused of inappropriate contact with a student.
According to the Paris Police Department, they received a complaint Monday from a parent who said her 17 year-old son had received “inappropriate communication” from Shadoan. Paris Police worked with the Kentucky Attorney General’s Cyber Crimes Unit and obtained search warrants for Shadoan’s home and his car.
Police found and seized evidence leading to Shadoan’s arrest, according to the Paris Police Department. He is currently being held at the Bourbon County Detention Center on a $50,000 full cash bond.
WLEX-TV is reporting that the charges are in connection with Shadoan allegedly receiving pictures of a 17-year-old boy in exchange for grades.
Law enforcement indicated that additional charges may be filed against Shadoan, who has taught algebra at Paris High School for the past three years.
Paris Independent Schools Superintendent Janice Cox-Blackburn said Shadoan was suspended when the charges came to light. Cox-Blackburn said regardless of the outcome of the investigation Shadoan will not return as a school system employee.
Shadoan was dismissed from a Pulaski County Schools teaching position at Northern Middle in 2005 after being accused of sodomizing a student in the Upward Bound program at Berea College during a camping trip.
Somerset attorney Brenda Popplewell defended Shadoan during his trial in 2006 and got him acquitted of the sodomy charge and also a lesser sexual misconduct charge. The case was tried in Whitley Circuit Court.
