Somerset — Students and staff at Southwestern High School returned from Christmas break Monday — only to learn that their school had been a target of burglary and vandalism.
The incidents apparently occurred on New Year’s Eve, but an investigation into the crimes didn’t get into full swing until yesterday, when teachers were able to take inventory of items which may have been taken.
Pulaski County Sheriff’s Detective Brett Whitaker and Pulaski County Schools spokeswoman Sonya Wilds said the school and the football fieldhouse were burglarized.
“Thousands of dollars of items were taken,” Whitaker added.
The sheriff’s department is obtaining video footage from the school which may help in the investigation.
“We do have some persons of interest that we are looking at, but they have not yet been named as our suspects,” Whitaker said.
