Pair who robbed Lakeway Shell arrested

Local News

Somerset — Two Pulaski County men were arrested Monday evening in connection with a robbery at a West Somerset convenience store.

According to the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department, Robert Aaron Hammonds, 33, and Steven Lee Hansford, 32, both of Popular Estates Road, were arrested Monday after investigators received a report of a robbery at Lakeway Shell at 2880 West Ky. 80 at 10:17 p.m.

An investigation into the incident revealed that a masked male suspect armed with a handgun entered the store and demanded cash. The employee, who wasn’t hurt during the incident, complied with the suspect’s demands and gave him an undisclosed amount of cash.

Sheriff’s Deputy Danny Pevley conducted a traffic stop on Hacker Road, off West Ky. 80, of a vehicle that matched the description of the one leaving the scene of the robbery. Hammonds and Hansford were in the vehicle, along with the stolen cash and the clothing and weapon used in the robbery.

Hammonds and Hansford were both charged with first-degree robbery – a class B felony. Both men were lodged in the Pulaski County Detention Center.

Sheriff’s units were assisted at the scene by the Somerset Police Department, and an investigation into the incident is continuing.

The Pulaski County Sheriff’s department also arrested another Pulaski County man after a burglary was reported early Tuesday morning.

According to the sheriff’s department, Brian M. Hittle, 19, of West Ky. 80, was arrested after a homeowner reported a burglary in progress on Hacker Road at around 2:45 a.m. Tuesday.

An investigation by Pevley and Deputy Craig Whitaker revealed that a male suspect, later identified as Hittle, reportedly forced his way into a residence by “overcoming” a locked door. The noise of the forced entry alerted the owner of the home, who investigated.

Hittle allegedly ran from the residence after he was confronted by the owner and Pevley and Whitaker apprehended him between Hermine Drive and West Ky. 80.

Hittle was charged with second-degree burglary and was lodged in the Pulaski County Detention Center.
