A Somerset woman died Thursday after running a red light and crashing into another vehicle, according to the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department.
At just after 1:30 p.m., sheriff’s units responded to a report of an injury accident at the intersection of U.S. 27 and Ky. 914. According to witness statements, Jana Troxell, 58, of Oak Hill Road, was driving a 1993 Dodge northbound on U.S. 27 when she failed to stop for a traffic light and entered the intersection, striking a 2003 Ford being operated by Justin Lester, 26, of Monticello. Lester was making a left turn from Ky. 914 to go south on U.S. 27.
Troxell was treated at the scene by Somerset Fire/EMS and transported to Lake Cumberland Reg-ional Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead by the Pulaski County Coroner’s Office. According to Coroner Richard New, Troxell’s body will be taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort, where an autopsy will be performed on today to determine the cause of death.
Pulaski County Sheriff Todd Wood said Lester had no apparent injuries and was not transported to LCRH.
The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by the Somerset Fire/EMS and the Parker’s Mill Fire Department.
The investigation is continuing by the Pulaski County Coroner’s Office and the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department.
