Two seriously hurt in N. U.S. 27 crash

Woman extricated, airlifted to UK

Eubank — A man and woman were injured in a two-vehicle collision on North U.S. 27 at Floyd Switch-Estesburg Road in the Eubank area shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The cause of the wreck was still under investigation at press time, however, it appeared as though an Isuzu SUV driven by Matthew Wright, 34, of Neon, Ky., may have pulled into the path of a Pontiac sedan driven by Kathy Spears, 46, of Waynesburg, as Spears was traveling in the northbound lane.

Both vehicles left the roadway and came to rest in a ditch following the initial impact.

Spears had to be extricated from her vehicle by the Pulaski County Rescue Squad. She complained of leg and stomach pain, Public Safety Director Tiger Robinson said, and was airlifted from the scene by Air Methods. Robinson said Spears was flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment of her injuries.

Robinson said Wright appeared dazed following the collision. He was transported to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital by the Somerset EMS Department.

Both individuals were still being treated for their injuries at press time.

The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department, Eubank Volunteer Fire Department, Pulaski County Rescue Squad, Public Safety Office, and Somerset EMS Departments responded to the scene.
