Somerset — Off-road driving carries with it a unique set of hazards — and when items used to make methamphetamine are present in one’s vehicle, being arrested becomes one of those potential problems.
Kevin E. Marcum, 35, and Cherish L. Smith 26, both of 5420 Ky. 235, Nancy, were taken into custody on Wednesday after being found in just such a situation, according to the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies Steve Molen and David Wesley responded to a call to assist a Kentucky Fish and Wildlife officer on Ky. 235. The officer had encountered the two suspects operating a 1998 Chevrolet pickup truck which had become stuck in a field.
Upon an investigation, the deputies allegedly discovered the suspects to be in possession of several items utilized in the production of the illegal drug methamphetamine. Those items included drain cleaner, starter fluid, lithium batteries, cotton balls, and crushed-up Pseudoephedrine tablets in a bottle.
Marcum and Smith were each charged with manufacturing metham-phetamine, a first offense, and were lodged in the Pulaski County Detention Center.
The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by Kentucky Fish and Wildlife Officer Jerrod Alley.
