Cumberland Square mishap injures two
Traffic was blocked eastbound on Ky. 80 in front of the Cumberland Square shopping center on Wednesday afternoon.
At around 4 p.m., emergency personnel arrived at the intersection with Farm Bureau Drive to find that a 1996 Chevy S10 pick-up truck driven by Darryle Collingsworth, 50, of Eubank, had collided with a 2011 Chevy Cruze car driven by Arnold Mounts, 39, of West Virginia at the stoplight.
A passenger in the Cruze, Timothy Hatfield, 40, was entrapped temporarily in the vehicle and had to be removed by emergency personnel, and was taken to the hospital for injuries to his head and neck, according to Somerset Police.
Mounts told police that he was unsure if his light was red or green at the intersection, while Collingsworth was coming from Farm Bureau Drive to turn west onto the bypass. Collingsworth said he pulled out when his light turned green and the Cruze stuck his truck, according to SPD.
Collingsworth went to the hospital by himself for chest pains.
Police were assisted on the scene by the Somerset Fire Department, Somerset-Pulaski EMS, and the Kentucky Safe Highway Patrol.
