A man accused of killing a puppy in front of several children has posted bond. Larry Benjamin “Benji” Caudill, 35, posted a $10,000 bond this week soon after he appeared in Pulaski District Court. Caudill was arrested Monday, Aug. 16, and charged with torture of a cat or dog with serious injury or death, which is a Class D felony, after he allegedly tortured and killed a 6-month-old Jack Russell terrier puppy, called Toby, in front of at least two young girls. That incident reportedly took place on Sunday, Aug. 8 at a residence on Ky. 235 in western Pulaski County. According to the complaint, Caudill allegedly cut the puppy’s tail off with an ordinary knife, and then threw it or slammed it against the concrete steps of the home after children at the home, watching the incident unfold, became upset. The puppy died soon afterward. According to the original complaint, Caudill told authorities the puppy was “wormy” and he killed it because he couldn’t afford to take the animal to a veterinarian. Caudill was lodged in the Pulaski County Detention Center. Caudill must remain under electronic monitoring and home incarceration as per the terms of his bail. He’s also restricted from owning or possessing an animal. His case is set to go before the Pulaski County Grand Jury soon.
