Pulaski man convicted of heroin trafficking

Somerset —

A Pulaski County man was convicted on charges related to heroin trafficking.
Chad Puchalski, 25, of Somerset, pleaded guilty earlier this month to first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, according to Pulaski County Commonwealth’s Attorney Eddy F. Montgomery.
Puchalski was arrested in August 2012 after deputies with the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department  reportedly found 150 capsules of heroin, over $2,000 in cash, and several firearms while carrying out a search warrant at a home on Trails End in Somerset.
The search warrant was secured after deputies, while carrying out an unrelated arrest warrant, suspected drug activity at the home, according to Montgomery.
Puchalski reportedly told authorities that “ ... he had been selling heroin and that he had been receiving the heroin from Dayton, Ohio,” according to Montgomery.
It was later determined at the Kentucky State Police laboratory that the total amount of heroin found  was more than 14 grams.
Montgomery during Puchalski’s March 7 court hearing indicated that he would recommend seven years in prison for the trafficking charge.
Montgomery stated there is an increasing amount of heroin flowing into Pulaski County, possibly filling a gap created by the increased difficulty in obtaining Oxycontin and methamphetamine.
