A Pulaski County man arrested in December in connection with a rash of thefts is facing more than 40 charges as handed down by a grand jury this month — and two other defendants are facing charges as well.
A Pulaski County grand jury last week indicted Kyle David Phipps, 23, on 44 counts stemming from a number of thefts that took place in the county through much of December.
Phipps was arrested Dec. 20 by the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department, which had been investigating a series of thefts from vehicles, after surveillance video taken of a male using a stolen gift card at a local store led detectives to identify the suspect as Phipps.
“Phipps admitted his involvement in the thefts and assisted in the recovery of some of the stolen property, including several handguns,” stated Lt. Det. Brett Whitaker through a press release.
Investigators had been looking into a number of incidences where items were taken from cars in the Oak Hill, Slate Branch and Bourbon Road areas.
Items reported stolen include electronics, clothing items, money, hunting equipment and firearms. Most of the property reported stolen has been returned to the owners.
According to the indictment, the items were taken between Dec. 10 and Dec. 19, 2012.
Phipps was indicted on one count of first-degree unlawful access to a computer, two counts of second-degree burglary, six counts of theft of a firearm, nine counts of theft by unlawful taking over $500, and 26 counts of theft by unlawful taking less than $500.
The investigation that led to Phipps also led to two people who allegedly helped in the thefts, and who helped Phipps sell some of the stolen property, according to Whitaker.
Courtney A. Coffey Hammonds, 22, of Somerset, was indicted on two counts of complicity to commit theft by unlawful taking over $500, two counts of theft by unlawful taking less than $500, and four counts of complicity to commit theft of a firearm.
Glen A. Richardson, 20, also of Somerset, was indicted on one count of first-degree complicity to commit unlawful access to a computer, complicity to commit theft of a firearm, and complicity to commit theft by unlawful taking less than $500.
All three suspects were lodged in the Pulaski County Detention Center under a $50,000 cash bond.
An indictment is an accusation only. Defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty by a jury in court.
