Two Somerset residents spent Thanksgiving Day behind bars after police allegedly found a meth-amphetamine lab in their home with children present.
Officer Derek Flynn, with the Somerset Police Department, responded to a report of possible drug activity in a home with children at 102 Marydale Avenue in Somerset at around 4:20 p.m. Wednesday.
According to the arrest citations, Renee J. Wilson, 26, who resides at the home, “gave consent to check (the) residence for drugs/contraband.”
Flynn entered the home and stated on the arrest report that he “detected strong chemical odor consistent with manufacturing meth.
“A walk through revealed a table with many items/chemicals consistent with manufacturing meth ... in plain view in the basement.”
Flynn also stated through the arrest report that items and substances in the upstairs bedroom of the home tested positive for methamphetamine exposure.
“Also in the bedroom were several syringes, spoons, razor blades, scales, and other drug paraphernalia,” Flynn stated in the arrest report.
While the search was ongoing, Wilson’s boyfriend, Jonathan C. Ramey, 28, arrived. Flynn stated that Wilson gave a statement that she knew Ramey manufactured meth, but she didn’t know it was going on in the residence.
Ramey also gave a statement, according to Flynn’s arrest report, stating he “didn’t know about the drugs/chemicals in the residence.”
Flynn also said Wilson provided a written statement saying that the alleged drugs in the home belonged to Ramey, along with a 30-30 caliber rifle. Flynn said a loaded handgun was also discovered in the bedroom of the home, which he stated belonged to Wilson.
Flynn stated that Wilson’s two children, who he said were one and three years old, were in the home at the time of the search.
According to the arrest report, Ramey and Wilson were arrested and each charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, first-degree possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and fourth-degree controlled substance endangerment to a child.
Ramey was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Ramey and Wilson were lodged in the Pulaski County Detention Center.
The Somerset Fire Department also responded to the home to assist in cleaning up the alleged meth lab.
