Ms. Rozella Paris, formerly of Monticello, Ky., celebrated her 100th birthday Friday, September 10, 2010.
A birthday celebration in her honor, along with other residents of Britthaven with September birthdays, was held Friday, September 24, in the lobby.
The residents enjoyed chili dogs, chips, cake and punch that was provided.
The lobby was decorated in pink and blue with colorful balloons.
Ms. Paris is the daughter of the late Zora Barnes Hammonds and Charlie Sloan and stepfather, Bill Hammonds.
Living most of her life in the Fall Creek community near the Conley Bottom area, she, her mother and late husband, Elbert Paris, loved fishing, gardening and quilting.
Rozella is also the oldest surviving descendant of the late Reuben and Laura Hayes Barnes.
Having no children of her own, she always claimed first cousin, Billy J. Barnes, as her God son.
Ms. Paris is a lifelong member of the Pleasant View Baptist Church of Monticello where she and her family attended and supported for years. Until her failing health, she could always be counted on to play a vital part of the ministry.
Though she is cared for by professionals at Britthaven, she is loved by her extended family and friends who remember her kind and gentle spirit and her mischievous ways of always making others laugh.
